I would love to be involved in the Christmas lights campaign.
My idea: line up two pence pieces along the Exmouth seafront (two miles). If you did the whole length, you would raise £2,400 approximately for the lights. It would be a massive community involvement: schools could be included for a maths assignment, Rotary could help, and Elizabeth Hall on the seafront could be the staging post.
It could get in the Guinness Book of Records (??) and some great community PR (print and TV) for Exmouth.
It would involve a lot of organising, but not difficult and, of course, involve a bank to take in the money.
Most people have a wealth of two pence pieces hanging around at home.
I appreciate it is a huge task and an operational nightmare, but it could be a whole lot of fun and is certainly possible.
I have spoken to a fellow mum about the issue and she might have some other support that could be provided.
Another idea for Christmas in Exmouth is www.christmasinthepark.com - it’s in San Jose, California, and is wonderful.
I have been and my daughter was overwhelmed. It is very family/community based and gets families into the centre of town during the evenings.
I am not suggesting the scale of that... but they do a school tree decorating contest and I would love to explore other ideas.
I believe we have enough schools in Exmouth and garden centres to make this the best Christmas ever for a tree decorating competition!
I am applying to join the Exmouth Chamber and I have also just started an Exmouth Mums’ Facebook account - very early days and I don’t want to push the idea too much, but it will be an informal forum for mums (and dads!) to know about things.
I am happy to put up an appeal on that when the FB page is more developed.
