I would like to suggest two ideas for developing The Strand and Manor Gardens.
As most people are aware, this year is a Diamond Jubilee year. Over large parts of the country, many cities, towns and villages are celebrating this occasion by planting trees.
My idea is for Exmouth Town Council (ETC) and East Devon District Council (EDDC) to follow suit and plant 60 trees, bushes and shrubs in the Strand Garden - replacing the ridiculously expensive and controversial ‘Strand Complex’.
A project of this nature could be used to promote community cohesion and bring a sense of pride back to our town centre.
Moving onto the Manor Gardens: as it seems ETC and EDDC are obsessed with developing a cafe in one of our public spaces, why not use the existing building (formerly the Tourist Information Centre) in the Manor Gardens? As everyone knows, the Manor Gardens in full bloom is a marvellous place and deserves to be celebrated.
The Strand already has a number of well established excellent cafes and eateries; why waste taxpayers’ money building another? Surely, in these times of economic austerity, local councils should be seeking financial efficiency and recycle existing resources.
