When is something going to be done about Exmouth's rapidly vanishing beach? I have just driven along the seafront and to my dismay saw that large boulders are being placed near the Octagan. While this is all well and good for protecting a local businessmans interests, it does little for the rest of us. Should Exmouth experience many more violent storms, we will lose our sand dunes, and what little remains of our beach. The only action that can help is imideate dredgeing of the shipping chanel, as this is the cause of the problem. But it probably won't happen. In my opinion no one seems to want to take responsibility for this and the residents of Exmouth will soon be left with no beach, a supermarket and little else.
I agree I went there recently with my baby boy and it was so dirty there. We had a long walk to find a nice bit of the beach but there was a lot of litter and he was playing in the sand and kept finding dirty cans/tissues and god knows what.
We are disappointed as we have just moved here and think its pretty dirty in Exmouth beach area.
I think it would be really nice if an area of the beach was kept really clean for children to safely play. It would be lovely for my boys to be able to play in the sand without uncovering rubbish or dog's mess. If parks can have such dog free clean areas (usually the play areas) why can't beaches?
Some reasons why Exmouth beach is untidy/dirty.
1) People who leave their mess lying around, failing to pick up dog poo, Big Mac bags and boxes, Kentucky boxes, etc.
2) EDDC dont use fido on the beach (Fido is a machine to pick up dog poo that EDDC uses to keeps grass areas clear)
3) The tide bringing in smelly sea weed that English nature will not allow EDDC to clear away
4) Wind blown litter.
All except number 3 are the result of people not taking care!!

I couldn't agree more. What EDDC fail to realise is that without the beach there is no Exmouth. In my opinion visitors don't come to Exmouth for the fabulous shopping. They don't flock here for the array of michelin starred restaurants and nor do they come down to Exmouth for the wonderful selection of Bars and nightclubs. They come here for the beach and without the beach there is no Exmouth. It is paramount that EDDC maintain and protect the beach.
One option would be to continue to attempt to educate the public regarding the dropping of litter / Dog mess etc. But that may take some time.
Alternatively, the council should do the correct thing and protect and nuture our beach
