Sidmouth Farmers' Market.

After a few weeks mention in the Sidmouth Herald and an on-line poll (which came out overwhelmingly in support), is there any more news of a Farmers' Market coming to Sidmouth.

What better way to get real 'local' and fresh produce to the townsfolk - probably a lot more cheaper too.

The 'market' shopping experience is one not to be missed - and it will bring more people into town who will also shop in the High Street.

Is there no-one in town with the 'clout' to get this off of the ground?

Maybe with the Esplanade in Sidmouth soon to be designated a 'Consent Street' for the purposes of trading during Folk Week, we could see an opening for a Farmers' Market later in the summer and then on a regular basis.

This town appears to bend over backwards to accommodate the Folkies and yet cannot look forward on behalf of it's residents.

Hopefully people will realise that such a market would attract extra shoppers to the town meaning more pennies in the coffers for the local shops.

Its not rocket science is it?

Well then - as from 14th July 2008 pre-arranged trading will be allowed to take place on the Esplanade and Prom - this is, of course, for the benefit of the Folkies. The 'law' has been changed to stop them breaking the law - good init!

Why can't the powers that be (recipients of our council tax) think about and do something for the 'locals' for a change and allow a Farmers Market. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to have a bit more choice than we presently have and perhaps lower prices. Fuel prices have rocketed - so why not let local growers and farmers set up some stalls, as they do in towns not too far away, rather than suffer from the high mark-ups on food caused by transport costs.
